On Tuesday, July 13, MTV’s The Hills will come to an end with its series finale episode.
This breakout program premiered on May 31, 2006, and followed the personal life of Laguna Beach star Lauren Conrad and her friends, and their new lives in Los Angeles. After 5 seasons, Conrad chose to leave the series, and another former Laguna Beach star, Kristin Cavallari, replaced her starting in the second half of season 5. Cavallari had announced that she signed on for two additional seasons past the fifth, but MTV announced on March 25, 2010 that this would be the final season consisting of 12 episodes.
As much as the story line has declined in the past two seasons, I am really going to miss this show. How can anyone forget the classic altercation at Les Deux between Lauren and Heidi Montag about the rumored sex tape. Or Lauren simply stating, “I wanna forgive you…and I wanna forget you.” No one will ever cry mascara better than Conrad can. We can’t forget about Conrad choosing Jason Whaler over Paris, Audrina Patridge telling Lo Bosworth, “we’ll never be friends,” and Whitney Port’s endless reaction faces. Even Heidi’s 14 procedures of plastic surgery and Cavallari’s return to the franchise made headlines and sucked viewers into the dramatic lives of our favorite Laguna alum.
